Lorem Ipsum Generator

Lorem Ipsum is the industry-standard placeholder text used in graphic design, web design, and publishing. The text is derived from Cicero's philosophical work "De Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (On the Ends of Good and Evil) written in 45 BC, though the Lorem Ipsum version is scrambled and has had sections removed to make it look natural without being readable. It has been used in typesetting since the 1500s, and was popularised in the 1960s when Letraset included it on their dry-transfer sheets.

The purpose of Lorem Ipsum is deliberate: placeholder text that resembles natural language in structure and character distribution helps designers focus on visual design decisions — typography, layout, spacing, line length, and column width — without the reader's eye being drawn to actual meaningful content. If you use real text ("Insert text here" or just a single word repeated), the repetitive pattern distracts from evaluating the design. Lorem Ipsum looks like text without being text.

That said, there are situations where Lorem Ipsum is the wrong choice. When testing localisation, you need text in the target language. When testing multi-byte character rendering (Chinese, Arabic, Korean), Lorem Ipsum's Latin character set won't reveal rendering bugs. When demoing a product to stakeholders, content-aware dummy text (like representative product names or user-generated content) tells a more convincing story.

This generator produces clean Lorem Ipsum in three modes: by paragraph (best for simulating full-page body copy), by sentence (for testing smaller text containers like cards and tooltips), and by word count (for precise length control).
